How to Test Your Fume Extraction System

Posted by Etienne Blouin on Jul 30, 2018 2:29:52 PM

With fume extraction welding, the effectiveness of the smoke capture is always dependent on the strength of the fume extraction system. No matter how effective the torch or skilled the welder, without a system strong enough to capture the smoke, both the welder and the environment will not be spared from the harmful effects of metallic fumes.

Water-cooled Welding MIG Maintenance Tips

Posted by John Esposito on Jul 6, 2017 8:16:24 AM

When you are going from air-cooled to water-cooled welding torches, the biggest component is water. Since water is a good conductor of electricity, it does pose a threat as far as electrical hazards; whether it's to the welder itself, or to nearby workers, depending on if there is water on the floor. So when you're proposing water-cooled equipment, the maintenance is extremely important. You should be on a regular maintenance schedule. Starting from the water cooler and working our way to the torch, let's go through some steps that should be a part of your regular maintenance schedule.

Gas metal arc welding (GMAW) is one of today’s most popular welding methods in nearly all industrial manufacturing fields. This is a positive development; however, the process has a wide range of risks for the welder. Welders protect themselves from the negative effects of welding by wearing protective gear to protect the body and eyes from burns, electrical shock and bright light and ultraviolet radiation.

New Threshold Limits for Manganese

Posted by Matthew Sciannella on Jan 4, 2017 10:20:44 AM

Fusion welding and pressure welding processes both produce visible smoke and fumes that contain harmful metal fume and gas byproducts that can be hazardous to a welder’s health. Manganese oxide has gained so much attention as a hazardous element found in welding fumes that it has warranted a closer study of its side effects.
